Tracy Hruska, Habitat Restoration Project Manager
Tracy joined the Habitat Restoration team as a Project Manager in 2020. Tracy has lived in rural areas across much of the US and abroad, and he brings to CREST a longstanding devotion to seeing that rural communities and their environments benefit each other. He is particularly happy to be working on restoration activities that benefit salmon, and to thereby support all the communities that rely on them.
Tracy’s role at CREST is to usher restoration projects from a mere idea all the way to post-implementation monitoring, usually a process of several years. During that progression, he works with numerous partners to raise funds, secure permitting, find and hire the companies or people that actually do the work on the ground, and see that all steps are completed according to plan and within compliance. Tracy is always looking for new possible projects and new partners to work with.
Tracy has a diverse professional history that includes on-the-ground restoration, commercial fishing, the building trades, Peace Corps (Ethiopia), and work in non-profits that bridges social and environmental issues. Immediately prior to starting at CREST, he managed the Rural Community Development program at the Sierra Institute for Community and Environment. He has a bachelor’s in Biology from Carleton College, a master’s in Environmental Studies from Prescott College, and a Ph.D. in Environmental Science, Policy, and Management from the University of California, Berkeley.

Personal ProfileTracy is very glad to be back in Oregon after years away. On the seemingly rare occasions when he finds the time, he enjoys running, biking, and paddleboarding. Far more often, you can find him walking the streets of Astoria with two furballs, his young son, and, if he’s very lucky, his wife. Maybe someday he’ll be able to go backpacking again.
