McCarthy Creek Restoration
Location: McCarthy Creek
CREST partnered with the West Multnomah Soil and Water Conservation District, Natural Resource Conservation Service, Bonneville Power Administration, and private landowners to expand tidal wetland habitat on a 71-acre property along the Multnomah Channel next to the Burlington Bottoms wetland complex. The McCarthy Creek restoration effort involved lowering marshplain elevations, removing two culverts, improving channel connection, installing large habitat logs and beaver dam analogs, and revegetating the site with native plant species. Restoring the health of this wetland is not only critical for endangered Columbia and Snake river salmon and steelhead, it will also benefit other wildlife species who inhabit the area surrounding Sauvie Island.
