Bear, Mary’s, and Ferris Creeks (BMF)
Location: The Bear, Mary’s, and Ferris Creeks (BMF) project area is located near River Mile 20 within the Columbia River Estuary (CRE) in Clatsop County, Oregon.
In summer 2018, the restoration project was completed and restored hydrology and fish access to the 64.5 acres of tidal marsh habitat. Project elements for the Bear, Mary’s, and Ferris Creeks (BMF) Restoration Project were implemented for their ability to enhance tidal marsh ecosystem function and rearing habitat for ESA-listed juvenile salmonids. Each of the restoration elements implemented provided immediate habitat benefits as well as support the longer-term trajectory of functioning tidal habitat. Access capacity for salmon at the BMF project site was enhanced by performing approximately 2,490 LF of levee removal, 5,880 LF of channel excavation, ditch fill and channel re-meandering, and creating 10 new marsh channel connections. Additionally, 3.94 acres of topographic complexity mounds, and 21 acre of native revegetation (plantings) occurred to improve the overall function of the site.
