Nancy Ferber, Coastal Planner

Nancy joined CREST in the role of Coastal Planner in April 2019. Her primary responsibility is supporting both current and long-range planning processes in the Columbia River Estuary region through collaborating with local jurisdictions and agencies in Washington and Oregon. She is excited to work with these unique communities and provide assistance on a diversity of projects.
Previously Nancy was the City Planner at the City of Astoria, and brings experience working with local stakeholders as well as regional partners. She enjoys finding creative solutions to complex land use challenges. Her local planning experience ranges from helping with downtown revitalization efforts to securing grant funding for historic preservation projects to drafting policy to address short-term lodging issues.
She is involved in project permitting with CREST partners, including joint use permits, conditional use permitting and shoreline management issues. She has a passion for implementing public engagement processes.
Before moving back to the Pacific Northwest, Nancy worked on creative placemaking projects in Minneapolis with the Musicant Group, an interdisciplinary placemaking and public space management firm. Through partnering with public sector and commercial clients, these projects transformed underutilized public and common area spaces into active urban areas. In her position at CREST she is excited to merge her passion for environmental issues with her experience in creative approaches to city planning. She looks forward to using her wide range of skills to analyze information and effectively communicate with community members, partners, and stakeholders to best serve the community at large.
Nancy has a Masters in Urban and Regional Planning from the Humphrey School of Public Affairs at the University of Minnesota. She focused her studies on sustainable land use development and creative public engagement processes. She is certified by the American Institute of Certified Planners and is an active member of the American Planning Association.
